What is the Malwa Teerth — Ujjain, Omkareshwar, Maheshwar?
Most Jyotirlinga circuits are measured in weeks and in flights. This one is measured in hours and in a single road. Mahakaleshwar at Ujjain and Omkareshwar on the Narmada are 140 km apart, and Maheshwar — Ahilyabai Holkar's riverside capital, with the ghats and the fort above them — sits on the same line. A pilgrim with four days can complete two of the twelve Jyotirlingas, bathe at two rivers, and still be back at a railhead on the last evening.
It is also the circuit we know on the ground: our team is based in Ujjain, which is where this road begins.

Why does the Malwa Teerth — Ujjain, Omkareshwar, Maheshwar matter?
Ujjain is one of the seven Moksha-puris and holds Mahakaleshwar, the only south-facing Jyotirlinga. Omkareshwar is an island shaped, by tradition, like the syllable Om, and carries both the Omkareshwar and Mamleshwar shrines. Maheshwar is not a Jyotirlinga but it is the oldest kind of pilgrimage stop — a ghat town on a great river, with a temple and a fort that have faced the water for centuries.
In what order should the Malwa Teerth — Ujjain, Omkareshwar, Maheshwar be done?
Ujjain first, then south. Ujjain → Omkareshwar is 140 km via Indore, about 3 hours. Omkareshwar → Maheshwar is 65 km along the Narmada, roughly 90 minutes. From Maheshwar it is 95 km back to Indore for a train or a flight. Doing it in reverse works equally well if you are arriving at Indore airport; what does not work is treating Omkareshwar as a day trip from Ujjain and then driving back for Maheshwar, which adds 140 km of the same road twice.
How do you plan the Malwa Teerth — Ujjain, Omkareshwar, Maheshwar?
Day 1 — Ujjain. Mahakaleshwar in the morning, then Kaal Bhairav, Mangalnath and Sandipani Ashram; Ram Ghat in the evening. Day 2 — Ujjain to Omkareshwar. Leave early, darshan at Omkareshwar and Mamleshwar, stay the night on the island or at Indore. Day 3 — Omkareshwar to Maheshwar. The ghats, Rajarajeshwar temple and Ahilya Fort; this is the slow day and should be. Day 4 — Maheshwar to Indore, with Mandu added if you have the extra day.
Three days is enough if you skip Mandu. Two is not — it turns the trip into driving.
When is the best time for the Malwa Teerth — Ujjain, Omkareshwar, Maheshwar?
October to March. The Narmada towns are pleasant then and the ghats are usable at dawn. Shravan (July–August) brings the heaviest footfall of the year at both Jyotirlingas and should be planned for deliberately rather than stumbled into. April to June is hot enough to make the Maheshwar day unpleasant.
