Why is Kalaram Temple significant?
The Kalaram temple stands in Panchavati, the part of Nashik that the Ramayana places as the forest where Rama, Sita and Lakshmana lived during their exile. The name comes from the black stone image of Rama in the sanctum — kala Ram. The present temple was built in 1792 by Sardar Rangarao Odhekar in black basalt, with a tall shikhara and a pillared courtyard, and is the principal temple of the city.
The temple also holds a place in modern Indian history: the satyagraha led by Dr B. R. Ambedkar here in 1930, for the right of entry, is among the significant events of the social reform movement.
Which rituals and festivals are held at Kalaram Temple?

The temple is in Panchavati, about three kilometres from the Nashik city centre and roughly nine from Nashik Road railway station. Mumbai is about 170 kilometres away by the Mumbai–Agra highway.
Ramkund on the Godavari, Sita Gufa and the Kapaleshwar temple are all within walking distance in Panchavati and are usually done in the same circuit.
