What is Muktidham Temple known for?
Muktidham is a marble temple complex housing all twelve Jyotirlingas symbolically, along with the four Dhams and a large Krishna temple. Ideal for pilgrims who want the essence of pan-Indian darshan in a single visit.
Why is Muktidham Temple significant?
Muktidham was built in the 1970s at Nashik Road in white Makrana marble, and is unusual among temples in being conceived as a single complex that brings many shrines together: replicas of the twelve Jyotirlingas, the four Dhams, and a large Krishna temple, with the eighteen chapters of the Bhagavad Gita inscribed on the walls. Paintings of scenes from the epics run through the halls.
It is a modern temple rather than an ancient one, and its purpose is a practical devotional one — a place where a pilgrim can make the essence of a pan-Indian darshan in a single visit.
Which rituals and festivals are held at Muktidham Temple?
Worship is offered at the individual shrines in the usual way, with flowers, bel patra at the Jyotirlinga replicas, and tulsi at the Krishna temple. Aarti is held morning and evening.
Mahashivratri, Janmashtami and Ram Navami are all observed, given the range of shrines in the complex. The temple is open and airy and takes an hour or so to walk through properly.
