Temples in Somnath

Somnath stands on the shore of the Arabian Sea at Prabhas Patan in Gujarat, and is traditionally counted first among the twelve Jyotirlingas. The temple has been destroyed and rebuilt many times over its history; the present structure was completed in 1951. Prabhas is also associated with the last days of Krishna, and the Triveni Sangam, where three rivers meet the sea, is a short walk from the temple.

Best time to visit: October to March. Mahashivratri and Kartik Purnima are the principal occasions.
