Temples in Rameshwaram

Rameshwaram is on Pamban island off the coast of Tamil Nadu, and the Ramanathaswamy temple here is both one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and one of the Char Dham. The Ramayana places the building of the bridge to Lanka from this coast, and tradition holds that Rama worshipped Shiva here on his return. The island is reached by road and rail over the bridges across the Pamban channel.

Best time to visit: October to April. Mahashivratri and the Thirukalyanam festival are the principal occasions.
